Light Painting
It's back and better than ever!
During a Light Painting Session, every shape you strike becomes a canvas. As you hold your pose, our team literally paints with light around you—creating electric ribbons, auroras, starbursts, or fiery trails that amplify your movement.
Each image takes minutes to build in real time, in total darkness. No AI. No overlays. The magic happens in camera.
This is aerial photography for the bold—the kind you frame, showcase, and brag about.
The evenings of January 10 & 11, 2026.
Jade X Fusion Fitness 1151 E 1010 N St, Spanish Fork, UT 84660

Poses
This shoot will likely differ from any aerial photoshoot you’ve experienced. The light trails are created through long-exposure photography. This means each photograph takes roughly 10 seconds to take versus a quick snap. Because of this prepare poses you can sustain for long periods of time (more than your typical four counts). The more still the better the result.
Does this mean you have to hold your breath and not move a muscle? Absolutely not! This is aerial arts we’re talking about. I won’t bore you with the science behind it, but here at Red Fox Photo we know the secret sauce to keeping you sharp and in focus. Any movement will result in a black silhouette within the light trail or overlapping within the trails (which looks pretty cool in its own sense).
Skills, moves, tricks, poses, whatever you call them, they're not all made equal when it comes to still photography. Here are a few questions to ask yourself concerning your move set.
- Can I hold this skill for 10 seconds or longer?
- Is this a familiar skill I've executed well numerous times?
- Have I recorded myself in this skill and find it flattering on me when I play it back and pause?
- Will this skill work with and flatter the costume I'm wearing? (*cough* going upside down in skirts *cough* You can read all about that here.)
- Am I demonstrating clean lines in this skill?
- Is this skill at least one level below my current training level?
- Is this pose time efficient to get in and out of?
- Is my face relaxed in this skill (no popping forehead vein)? Is the fear behind my eyes concealed?
If your answer to any of these was "no", consider scrapping it. I see it over and over again: an aerialist spends so much of their shoot time attempting to execute a new or complex skill. They get their proofs back and end up wishing they invested more time into simple wraps where they could have rested and demonstrated clean lines.
Even the most experienced aerialists can forget a skill they prepared once they get in the air. This is why I highly recommend making a physical list of your favorite moves for a friend to read off if needed.
What to wear
If there is one thing I hope you take away from this section it is that you test run your costume in an open gym. I've seen far more of my aerialist friends than I've ever wanted to over the years due to outfits not being "upside down proof". If I can't post it on Instagram, I won't be photographing it. If you'd like further clarification on what I mean by that feel free to reach out before the shoot.
I also highly recommend bringing a backup outfit. Let's face it, aerial arts are rough on articles of clothing. If something rips or tears the day of, you'll be happy to have another option packed.
As for colors, think black, bright, or bold. This is one of the very few shoots where I'll steer you away from earth tones and some typically fine neutrals. White specifically will cause a an unintentional ghosting effect. Anything that can be described as muted may pair poorly with the electric lighting.
FAQ
what time should i be there?
Early. Arrive 20 minutes prior to your booked session. This is for your safety. No one should neglect a proper warm up. Late comers will not be accommodated. If it's your first time dropping by the studio Jade X, first of all, welcome, second of all, give yourself extra time in your commute to locate us. There will be a few yoga mats in the lobby. The restroom will be within the "dark room" part of set. Opening the studio door will flood in light potentially ruining an on going shoot. Because of this we ask that you take care of any restroom needs in between sessions. Once a session has completed we'll turn on the lights and open the door.
You usually provide so many photos; why is this one different?
This lighting technique is a show stopper but its nature is time consuming. Each photo is individually painted. Positioning an aerialist so precisely also takes a great amount of care. In a typical photoshoot the camera can take a number of shots per minute but with this shoot each frame is carefully created.
I'm not available these dates, can we do this shoot another time?
Yes! Please inquire about a private booking. More information can be found under of "pricing tab" found under "more" in the web header.
Can I bring a friend to the shoot?
Please do! In fact, I recommend it. Having another person in your corner who can help read off your move list if you forget and join in on hyping you up can be a great addition. Just a reminder though that only registered participants will be in front of the lens. You as the client are responsible for anyone you bring to set and any misconduct they may display. If your plus one is asked to leave set your session will conclude. This has yet to be an issue and I want this trend to continue!
Can I take behind the scene videos on my phone?
Please do! As stated in the contract, all DSLR and mirrorless cameras are not allowed on set but cell phones more than welcome. Just make sure your screen is dim and flash is off!
Can I do a costume change?
Not this time, babes. We do recommend having a backup costume on hand in case of costume malfunctions. However, we do not recommend intending to shoot in two separate outfits. The session will not pause its duration for costume changes and we want you to get the most out of your experience. More time equals more photos.
how are photos chosen?
An album with the proofs (unedited photos) will be sent your way through an emailed link within 48 hours of the shoot to make your selection. Want us to make the selection? No worries. If no selection has been made after 7 days we will make a selection for you. Were we able to create more than 6 solid works? Want to take those photos home? No problem, additional edits are available for purchase at the cost of $10 per photograph. Also just a reminder that RAW files or unedited images are not distributed under any circumstance as they are not representative of our final product, standards, and branding.
How do i select my light color and apparatus?
After your booking has been confirmed a questionnaire will be sent your way via email.
Can I select two different apparatuses?
We love an aerialist that trains multiple disciplines. The nature of this shoot is suited for one apparatus per time slot. If you'd like to have yourself photographed on multiple apparatuses you are welcome to book multiple sessions.
Can I switch colors mid photoshoot?
While you're free to change your mind concerning your desired light color all the way up until the day of the shoot, once we start shooting that will be the color for the session. If you would like photos with two different looks you are welcome to book two sessions.
